Indeed - Match Recommendation Platform
Indeed's Match Recommendation Platform
Indeed.com is one of the most popular websites for helping people find jobs or qualified candidates. Offering both paid and free job listings, it's highly accessible to both mom-and-pop shops as well as large enterprise companies.
My role was focused on the Match Recommendation Platform for employers. When employers choose to sponsor their job, they gain access to a feature called "Instant Match." This feature offers a dashboard view of quality candidates who match desired experience and offer ways for the employer to proactively reach out and invite them to apply.
This feature is extremely valuable to employers since it provides a way to draw extra attention to their job listings, but most importantly it makes better use of the time traditionally spent sitting and waiting for applications to come in after posting a job.
Instant Match Surfaces
Instant Match has three primary locations for interaction within the Indeed website.
Matched Candidate Dashboard
This is the homepage for Instant Match, visible as a tab within the Candidate section.
Candidate List Page
At the bottom of the employer's view of applied candidates, there is a section to discover and interact with matched candidates.
Calibration
This view shows at the end of the job posting funnel. Its purpose is to gain feedback on which candidates would be a good fit and enables us to improve our matching algorithm.
Project: Showing more matches on the candidate list
Before (Problem)
The Instant Match surface on the Candidate List page was meant to be a way to add continuity to the employer experience by discovering new matches. However, its functionality was was limited by only showing 5 matches and provided no link to see all matched candidates.
After (Solutions)
- Added a "See all matches" link at the bottom of the list.
- Behavior: Each time a candidate is invited a new match appears at the bottom of the list so that there are always at least 5 total matches to act on.
Project: Candidate card UX improvements
This was a straight forward, but highly impactful project for ease of usability of our Instant Match dashboard.
Before (Problems)
- Extreme truncation of the job title, company name, and dates essentially rendered the information useless. User research taught us that the Experience section is the most important section to them, so we weren't delivering to their needs.
- It is unclear that the card includes the ability to view the candidate's full resume. The link was bundled up within the candidate's name (which was also the card header). This was problematic from an accessibility standpoint since there was no dedicated link for screenreaders.
After (Solutions)
- Splitting up the job title and the company/dates to different lines it not only made the content more easily parseable but was much less likely to obscure the content with truncation.
- Adding a dedicated "View full resume" link to the bottom of the card accommodates any visually impaired users. Placement at the bottom made for a natural continuation if the employer wants to learn more.
